I've heard many drones who believe the CNNBC media who say the Tea Parties were concocted by Fox News. I know they want you to believe that because Fox News trashes these journalistically bankrupt networks combined on a daily basis. They have resorted to spin for the sake of trying to stay alive, not just act as press secretaries for Chairman Obama.
These Tea Parties were not a stunt. They were not primarily about trashing Obama—we conservatives are mad at both parties. They were not whining parties to mourn our loss of the last election—we lost it when McCain became our nominee. And they were not in anyway organized by Fox News or corporate lobbyists or whatever they try to tell you on CNNBC.
In fact, this first Tea Party was back on February 27, and I don't think Fox News even knew until after the fact. I went to the Dallas Tea Party that day. I found out from my good friend, neighbor, and business partner, Bill Garlough, who found out on Twitter. It was organized on Twitter and Facebook in 48 hours, and around 300 people showed up that quickly. It was outside the American Airlines Center.
What were we protesting? That day we protested passing the porkulous bill that was hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of pages in length, and that NOBODY read. We dipped the pages in a big fish tank of tea. One guy blew his nose on his page. We had some good speakers and some good times.
Most of the people there—including me—had never been a part of a political protest of any kind. And as that poll was taken by show of hands, the speaker acknowledged that it's because all of us are too busy working for a living! Most people had to take a vacation day to get off work in the middle of that Friday. I retorted, "When you own your own business, you don't GET a vacation day!" And I got a lot of "amens."
I had JUST gotten on Twitter before this event, and since tweating about it, I'm up to 283 followers. I've been amazed at the people who follow me. I have a former U.S. Congressman who I know follow, too. Also, Thom Rainer, a favorite Christian non-fiction writer of mine. And also, Stephanie Klick, Chairman of the Tarrant County Republican Party. And many, many more.
Obama got elected by people who know how to use new technologies effectively, even to fleece people who tweat more than they think. We are never going to get our conservative message of foundational American principles and elect true conservatives to all levels of public office if we don't master it. Communication is everything. We know our message is better because it's right. It's what made this the greatest nation in the history of the world. Let's get the word out!
The tea parties are great and were organized through technology. But now what? Mrs. Glick today reminded me that we have got to move beyond these rallies and into action. I'm starting to think very seriously about how.
